Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) 2021-2022 has been announced. HKPFS 2021-2022 notification. Interested and eligible candidates can check out all of the details on the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) 2021-2022 given below:

Background:

Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2009, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at bringing the Very Best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD research in Hong Kong’s universities.

Qualification:

Candidates that are seeking admission as new full-time PhD students in the subsequent eight universities, no matter the country of origin, previous work experience and ethnic background, ought to be qualified to apply.

·         City University of Hong Kong

·         Hong Kong Baptist University

·         Lingnan University

·         The Chinese University of Hong Kong

·         The Education University of Hong Kong

·         The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

·         The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

·         The University of Hong Kong

Applicants must demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research capacity/potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership skills.

Fellowship Award:

The Fellowship provides a yearly stipend of HK$319,200 (roughly US$40,900) plus a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$13,300 (roughly US$1,700) annually for each awardee for a period up to 3 years. 300 PhD Fellowships will be granted in the 2021/22 academic year*. For awardees who want over three years to finish the PhD degree, further support could be offered by the chosen universities. For information, please contact the universities concerned directly.

* Universities in Hong Kong generally begin their academic year in September.

Selection Panel:

Shortlisted applications, subject to their areas of studies, will be reviewed by one of the following two Selection Panels comprising experts in the applicable board areas:

·         Science, Medicine, Engineering and Technology

·         Humanities, Social Science and Business Studies

Selection Criteria:

While applicants’ academic excellence is of primary concern, the Selection Panels will Take into Consideration variables as follows:

·         Academic excellence;

·         Research potential and ability;

·         Communication and interpersonal skills; and

·         Leadership abilities.

How to Apply:

Eligible candidates should first make an Initial Application online via the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme Electronic System (HKPFSES) to acquire an HKPFS Reference Number by 1 December 2020 at Hong Kong Time 12:00:00 before submitting applications for PhD admission to their desired universities.

Applicants can choose up to 2 programmes/departments at one or two universities for PhD research under HKPFS 2021/22. They ought to comply with the admission requirements of the chosen programmes and universities.

Since the deadlines for applications to some of the universities can immediately comply with that of the Initial Application, applicants should submit initial applications as soon as possible to make sure they have enough time to submit applications to universities.

Step 2: Submit Full Applications to Proposed Universities

After completing an initial application, applicants must submit complete applications for their chosen PhD programmes to the proposed universities quoting their HKPFS Reference Number prior to the universities’ individual deadlines. As regards program info, demands for PhD admission, application procedures, regulations and policy of individual universities, please consult with individual universities and PhD programs for information.
