DNA sensing got a pivotal role in protection against acute lethal virus infection

bioxone September 21, 2020September 21, 2020

-Sayak Biswas, Amity University Kolkata

Cells are made up of a specifically hostile environment. This hostile environment contains numerous immune sensors that help to detect infections caused by viruses. Production of interferons (IFN) takes place and the intracellular DNA plays a massive role in the inducing of the IFN.

The cytosolic DNA gets recognized by the cyclic GMP-AMP (cGMP) synthase (cGAS). This helps to activate the innate immune responses which are done by the stimulation of the interferon genes (STING). It has been found out that the activation of cGAS/STING is important to be able to resist the lethal virus infection. Viral Schalafen (vSlfn) has been found out to be the main inhibitor of STING. The experiment was conducted on the ectromelia virus and the results showed that the virus got attenuated in the absence of vSlfn. This absence of vSlfn also protected the animals from different types of viral respiratory infections.

How does saffron help in improving your health?

bioxone September 22, 2020

-Binayak Das, Team bioXone The medicinal worth of saffron (C. sativus L) has been widely acknowledged in the preparation of herbal-based medicine, over many years. Modern-day science has successfully found out that some of its key components, namely crocin, crocetin, safranal, and picrocin, are responsible for imparting it, its curative nature. The spice has been […]

Sampriti Roy, Asutosh College, University of Calcutta SARS-CoV-2, the talk of the town (read “world”), still lacks information related to its origin and exact mechanism.  The virus, found to cause DAD (diffuse alveolar damage), leads to respiratory failure which appears to be the common mechanism of death in patients with severe COVID-19 infection. However, with […]

Agrima Bhatt, Rajasthan University Brief about Eukaryotic cell Prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells share some commonalities in structures such as plasma membrane, cytoplasm, and ribosomes. However, eukaryotes precede their ancestor by having membrane-bound organelles, the membrane-bound nucleus also referred to as a “True nucleus” and rod-shaped chromosomes. The genetic material of a eukaryotic cell is […]

PEDIATRIC NEURODEVELOPMENT BY PRENATAL ZIKA VIRUS EXPOSURE

bioxone October 12, 2020October 12, 2020

Rohit Bhattacharjee, Amity University Kolkata Zika virus (ZIKV) is a teratogenic arthropod-borne flavivirus. Its vertical transmission can result in foetal injury, which might clinically manifest in a pattern of signs and symptoms recognized as Congenital Zika Syndrome (CZS). It is marked by structural defects like morphological alterations to the limbs, eyes and brain as well […]
