bioxone September 12, 2020September 12, 2020

-Sayak Biswas, Amity University, Kolkata

During a time when the coronavirus is spreading like a wildfire across the whole world, a private laboratory in West Bengal has claimed that one in every four persons have Covid-19 Antibodies in Kolkata. This news has come as a relief to a State which has already seen over 1.87 lakh novel coronavirus cases including 3715 deaths till date.

The private laboratory claimed that it has done a sero survey among 3.5 lakh people across India recently. From West Bengal, a total of 22589 people was brought under this program and from Kolkata itself, 9050 people were included. Based on the study, the laboratory confirmed that at least 26 percent of the population of Kolkata and around 23 percent of the population of Bengal may have already developed Covid-19 antibodies while the National numbers stand at 27 percent. If this trend continues, experts feel herd immunity will be achieved faster than thought.
