IISc Exclusively Hiring Life Science Candidates For JRF / SRF (KSS Lab)

bioxone October 16, 2020October 16, 2020

-Shristi Sharma, Team bioXone

IISc Life Science Jobs – JRF & SRF Vacancies Available. B.Tech/B.E./MSc or higher in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology jobs at IISc. Indian Institute of Science for Bioinformatics hiring for JRF & SRF Posts. Check out all of the details on the same below:

Description of Lab: Cancer development is a complex process involving the accumulation of genetic alteration in genes that normally regulate cell proliferation, differentiation, and death. In the laboratory, my research team seeks to understand the molecular mechanisms

underlying the development of central nervous system tumors, particularly gliomas, which

are tumors arising from glial cells. The grade IV glioma (Glioblastoma; GBM) is the most

common, malignant primary brain tumor in adults. The prognosis remains poor, with median survival ranging from 12-17 months despite improvements in the treatment protocol. While the primary aim of the KSS lab is to understand glioma biology, we also develop biomarkers/signatures for better grading, prognosis, and treatment. Some specific aspects of the study focus on miRNA, DNA/RNA, and chromatin modifications. We also use next-generation sequencing to identify novel genetic alterations and gene fusions in gliomas.

Position I

Job Title: Junior/Senior research fellow @ Indian Institute of Science for Bioinformatics.

Job Description:

The KSS lab of the Microbiology and Cell Biology department of IISc is looking for
individuals who are well versed with Next Generation Sequencing and Microarray
data analysis.

The primary research interest of the lab is the genetics of brain tumors.

The work will include analysis of NGS data (WGS, WES, RNA-Seq, and ChIP-Seq)
data to detect novel variants and genetic abnormalities associated with cancer of glial
cells.

Furthermore, variants identified through NGS analysis will be correlated with gene
expression and methylation status of in-house and external tumor samples and vice
versa.

A minimum of 2 years of commitment is necessary.

Additional details regarding the ongoing work in the lab can be obtained from the lab
website: http://www.maiyas.co/MCBL/faculty/kumaravel-somasundaram/#

Additional Skills Required:

Applicants must have previous experience in NGS data analysis and Microarray data
analysis.

Applicants must be comfortable with the Linux operating system and command-line
interface.

Applicants must be well versed with at least one programming language, R/ Python,
etc.

Eligibility: B.Tech/B.E./MSc or higher in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology.

NET/CSIR/BINC qualified will be preferred.

Note:

A short write-up of NGS based / Microarray-based project is mandatory.

Contact information of three referees should be provided.

Salary: Salary as per DBT norm

Position-II

Job Title: Junior/Senior research fellow @ Indian Institute of Science (MCB Dept)

Job Description:

individuals who are well versed with in vitro molecular biology techniques.

The primary research interest of the lab is the genetics of brain tumors.

The work will include maintaining high-end equipment like in vivo bioluminescence
imaging, qPCR, and other similar machines.

There will be plenty of opportunities to work on various projects carried out in the
laboratory.

A minimum of 2 years of commitment is necessary.

Additional details regarding the ongoing work in the laboratory can be obtained from
the lab website: http://www.maiyas.co/MCBL/faculty/kumaravel-somasundaram/#

Skills Required:

Applicants must have previous experience in molecular biology techniques such as
DNA, RNA, and protein extraction; cDNA preparation and qPCR; Agarose and
Acrylamide gel electrophoresis; Tissue culture methods.

Additional Skills Preferred:

Applicants must have previous experience working with laboratory animals such as
Mouse, Rat, etc.

Eligibility: B.Tech/B.E/MSc in Life sciences or any subject in Biology. CSIR-UGC NET/

DBT-JRF/ICMR-JRF/GATE qualified will be preferred.

Note:

A short write-up of an exciting project or idea is mandatory.

Molecular Paddling of White Blood Cells

bioxone October 16, 2020

Shrestha Sherry Chakraborty, Amity University Kolkata. Cells have employed various ways to travel in the biological system.  Somatic cells in our body adhere to cell surfaces for their movement. On the other hand, sperm cells and some bacteria move by the means of flagella. White blood cells are the specialized cells of the immune system. […]
