CSIR NET stands for the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). CSIR-UGC NET is a test being conducted in CBT (computer based test) mode by the National Testing Agency. The test determines the eligibility ‘for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for Lectureship/Assistant Professor’ in Indian universities and colleges. The programme is aimed at National Science & Technology Human Resource Development. Only a bonafide Indian citizen , with a bachelors degree from a recognized university is applicable for the exam.
Due to the current pandemic in view, NTA has re-opened the application portal for the students who could not fill the form due to various circumstances such as dislocation. This year June and December exam slots may be jointly conducted.

Exam Pattern:
Exam duration : 3hrs
Total Marks :200 (Negative marking@ 0.25% for wrong answers)
Paper divided into 3 parts :
A– 30 Marks, 20 questions of General Aptitude. Candidates have to answer 15 questions each of two marks.
B– 70 Marks, 50 questions- Subject Related MCQs. Candidates have to answer maximum 35 questions.
C– 100 Marks, 75 questions based on Analytical subject knowledge. Candidates have to answer 25 questions maximum.

Junior Research Fellowships (JRF through CSIR-UGC NET):
Some meritorious students are provided stipend upon qualifying the CSIR NET exam with a specified cutoff. Upon taking admission in any master’s degree in the listed CSIR Institutions, the stipend of a JRF selected through CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) will be Rs 31,000/ p.m for the first two years. In addition, annual contingent grant of Rs. 20,000/- per fellow will be provided to the University / Institution. SRF-NET: On Completion of two years as JRF and if the fellow is registered for PhD, the fellowship will be upgraded to SRF (NET) and the stipend will be increased to Rs. 35,000/- p.m for the 3rd and subsequent years. Though the upgrade will only happen if Expert Committee agrees of the candidate’s achievements and work of credit.
Lecturer-ship through CSIR NET:
Those who qualify for JRF are eligible for Lectureship/Assistant Professor also, subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria laid down by UGC. Some aspirants are declared successful in eligibility for Lectureship/Assistant Professor only based on their performance in the test.
