Does an Irregular menstrual cycle come along with a risk of premature deaths?

bioxone October 3, 2020October 3, 2020

Arjama Roy, Amity University Kolkata

A woman’s menstrual cycle is usually for 28 days. However, this may vary from person to person.  If the length of the menstrual cycle is more than 35 days, or if the duration varies, then we call it irregular periods. It may happen due to hormonal imbalance, changes in contraception, and also due to changes around the time of the menopause, endurance exercises. This is common during puberty and menopause when the body undergoes many changes. Especially after puberty, it can take several years for the estrogen and progesterone to reach a balance.

The irregularities become a general feature in some women’s lives. Menstrual irregularities in adolescence are associated with a greater risk of early death. Researchers from the University of Harvard stated that these deaths mostly related to cardiovascular diseases due to consistently present during adolescence and throughout adulthood. Nurses’ Health Study II for Women also reported that premature death mainly due to the regularity of their menstrual cycles throughout life and the mortality rates is higher in comparison to the women having regular cycles. These deaths mostly related to cardiovascular disease than for cancer or other causes.

Let's pause our lives! | Cryopreserve ourselves | Revive decades later?

bioxone October 3, 2020

-Pratyushee Ghosh, Amity University Kolkata In pursuit of life everlasting, some turn to God. Others turn to science. Or rather, something scientific! If you have ever thought of being cryogenically frozen, you may encounter a legal hurdle. While human cryonics is legal in several countries, you’ve got to be dead before going into the cryonics tank! Otherwise, freezing someone alive is tantamount to killing. So, as it […]
