Efficacy of the two PCR kits for SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid Detection

bioxone October 1, 2020September 30, 2020

-Srilagna Sarkar, Amity University Kolkata

To compare the diagnostic efficacy of the two different reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test kits. Throat swab samples from 18 hospitalized patients who were clinically tested for COVID-19 and from 100 hospitalized patients who were COVID negative were taken.
SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid was detected in throat swab samples of the Sansure PCR kit and Sanghai BioGerm PCR kit respectively.

The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV) and the kappa value were analyzed and three parallel tests of the three weakly positive samples were performed to analyse the respective values.

For all of the three parallel tests in all of the three samples, the coefficient of variation value of the BioGerm PCR kit was smaller for both ORF1ab and N gene compared to Sansure RT PCR kits. Detecting that the efficacy of the BioGerm PCR kit for SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid detection was relatively higher than the Sansure PCR kit.

Really helpful for people who didn’t even know what testing kits they actually use!! Now it will be surely better to rely on the testing reports!!!!!

Artificial lung to relieve from respiratory problems?

bioxone October 1, 2020

Ritwika Chowdhury, Team bioXone. Independent breathing is a common obstacle to the survival of pre-term babies because the lungs are not fully formed. This leads to respiratory distress right after birth because they cannot take up enough oxygen on their own.An international team led by current and former McMaster University researchers has developed an artificial […]

Neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) influencing SARS-CoV-2 to infect human cells more abruptly

bioxone October 22, 2020October 22, 2020

Devyani Goswami, Amity University Kolkata The spike proteins of the SARS-CoV-2 have been always the subject of interest in how it attaches to the human cells and causes the disease. Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is identified as the functional receptor for SARS-CoV (the virus observed in 2003); they are present in the epithelia of the […]

Monitoring Brainwaves: Early Drug Non-Response detection can revolutionize the treatment of Depression

bioxone September 17, 2020September 17, 2020

–Sampriti Roy, Asutosh College The 21st-century treatment of depression involving psychotherapy and eclectic approaches has undoubtedly come a long way from earlier methods (like lobotomies). However, the standard treatment of MDD (Major Depression Disorder) today with antidepressants- normally SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) can take around 4 weeks to months to show response-a duration that’s […]
