CAN COAL POWDER BE CONVERTED INTO NANO-GRAPHITE IN MICROWAVE OVEN?

bioxone January 14, 2021January 14, 2021

RUCHITA KARMAKAR, AMITY UNIVERSITY KOLKATA

Scientists and Researchers of the University Of Wyoming have found out that pulverised coal powder that is being used in copper foil, glass containers and a household microwave can be converted into a higher-value nano-graphite. This discovery works as an alternative method for the usage of Wyoming’s Powder River Basin coal at this time when the demand for coal is causing electricity to gradually decrease due to a drastic climatic change.

Researchers have invented a new technology where they created a suitable environment in a microwave oven which could help in the conversion of raw coal powder inti nano-graphite. This “ONE-STEP METHOD” is a new way of representing a very simple inexpensive coal conversion technology.

In this new method, the researchers used simply ground raw Powder River Basin coal into powder. The powder was then put down on a copper foil and then sealed in glass containers with a gas mixture of argon and hydrogen before it is placed in an oven. The sparks which are duly caused by the microwave oven can necessarily transform coal powder into polycrystalline graphite in which the copper foil and hydrogen gas contribute in the particular process. The microwave extension ranges from 3 to 45 minutes and the foremost range is 15 minutes.

The researchers concluded that this particular method of coal conversion could be refined and accomplished at a very large scale to yield both higher quality and quantity of nano-graphite material.

HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS AND ALTERED MICROBIOME!

bioxone January 14, 2021

Aakancha Shaw, St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata Various types of semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) have been detected in many indoor environments. Materials like asbestos can move through the air and into the lungs causing long term damage to human tissues. Apart from this, the household furniture, wallpaper, flooring etc. are also known to emit free-floating chemicals. […]

Sagnik Nag, Amity University, Kolkata Microbes within the built environment are implicated as a feasible source of contagion and certain syndromes, like allergies, are related to increasing urbanization. It’s now evident that cities, generally, have a notion on human health, though the mechanisms of this impact are broadly variable and sometimes little understood. Indeed, our […]
