Science and technology help in simplifying tumour testing

bioxone October 14, 2020October 13, 2020

Camelia Bhattacharyya, Amity University Kolkata

We live in a world that needs more fast methods to be used from day-to-day problems to higher or complicated forms of problems; the healthcare system is not excluded from these. Patients are needing immediate treatment after quick testing which mostly depends on the equipment and the techniques used. This system is known as point-of-care testing (POCT). One of the health issues which need efficient POCT is the detection of the circulating tumour cells (CTCs). Tumour, as we know is complicated and thus the treatment if goes wrong can cause more harm than benefits and the POCT sometimes shows wrong results thus questioning the chemotherapy which the patient is going to opt for and thus putting his life into danger.

In recent research, Chen Yangfei and his team have come up with a solution to overcome this problem. They have built a device that simplifies the testing processes and guarantees a more accurate result. It is a microscopic CTC cytometer which has a large field-of-view and is also automatic. It being of low weight, less expensive, more accurate, and utilizing LXW7 (a novel peptide) functionalized to magnetic beads for rapid testing can easily replace the previously used techniques and prove to be more selective and sensitive.

Thus, when the world is changing so much, we too need to change our views and experience science and technology everywhere while promoting it into more application-based and created ways.
