Niche theory and modeling define the environment required by an organism for its metabolism and reproduction. The animals and plants’ niches are well studied and characterized but microbial niches are comparatively not much well explored and classified. Many microbial niches cause harmful diseases such as pathogenic diseases, valley fever, etc. Niche modeling has become an important branch of ecology linked with mapping disease and transmission of disease. There are many reviews on ecology niche modeling and its applications on infectious diseases in geographical ecology.
What is Niche theory and modeling?
A niche is the function of an organism, how it reacts and responds to the ecology of the organism. In simple words, a niche is a functional unit of an organism’s habitat. Niche describes the functional role of animals, plants, and microbes. The niche theory was proposed by Hutchinson, where it defines the relationship of an organism to its environment. Niche modeling is a wide attempt to sample a large range of ecological variables. The model predicts the relationship between ecology and the role of the functional niches.
Future directions of niche
Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) is a fungus whose niche has been completely studied and characterized. The climate and pH of the AM fungal niches influence its physiology. New research for microbial ecology includes target applications that are ecologically matched to the AM fungal communities. Niche models which contain biological interactions with present and future climate will suggest favorable environments for microbes. Niche theory will be included in microbial functions and the concept can be soon implemented to study large-scale land areas.
Future of microbial ecological – Niche theory and modeling:
Niche modeling:
The niche model is a simplified model of a quite complex system. Niche theory predicts the kind of environment variables and ecological location that can be sampled for a particular selected microbial taxon. The observed data are then modeled and structured by niche modeling to predict the matches and suitable region whereas unsampled geographic regions and the regions under-sampling models should be evaluated and should be followed up to refine model assumptions. Niche modeling defines the unmeasured characters and factors like the interaction between species.
Niche models are the current area of interest in microbial ecology. After the creation of the niche models, the ecological are compared within the microbial taxa. The characteristics that were studied from species of niches were niche-breadth, niche-position, etc.
Niche theory:
This will give rise to a new theory of synergisms and trading which says about the ecology, functions, and general life spans of different trees and organisms. It is expected to give us all the needed pieces of information and data that are necessary for integrative research projects. Knowledge about the rules for evaluating and maintaining the organisms’ evolution and their region is also expected to be received from this theory. After these rules are linked to the niche model, we can generate maps and keys for the ecology geographical microbes functions, and plants morphological function. This also defines a linkage between microbes and the flora. These are developed into large-scale models including microbial dynamics, microbial ecology, evolution, and ecosystem.
Hence, niche models are predictions that are very useful in the interpretation of data in conjunction with the environmental data to build the correlative model that supports the organism for its better environmental and ecology conditions for their survival.
