Research on forensic anthropology has risen as a key factor in the estimation of ancestry. Despite forensic anthropology being controversial for use, ancestry still rules as a crucial parameter. It is used for the estimation of the socio racial categories of law enforcement, anticipated via cranial variation. To examine human physical distinctions, forensic anthropologists have bypassed human variety in favour of a simplistic approach. The findings highlight the advantage and necessity of studying models of population structures to gain a better understanding of human heterogeneity. Forensic anthropology ancestry is often valued as a substitute for the social race. Research revealed that antiquated views of race based on the trifecta of continental populations, namely, Asia, Europe, and Africa, in the field despite scientific invalidation of the concept of race decades earlier. The findings revealed by using modern geometric, morphometric, and spatial analysis strategies on craniofacial coordinates.
Collection of Samples
The sample totals 397 modern adult individuals and includes individuals from Latin America (Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Panama, Puerto Rico, and Peru) Males and females were analyzed separately when this information was available. To mitigate the effect of small sample sizes, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used as a dimension reducing technique and limiting the number of variables. The data collected was recognized with the ultimate tribute to the discussion of human variations. Also, it is greatly highlighted that the history and ethics of human skeleton collections are in general doubtful, and unnecessarily led to the marginalization of people. The landmarks for the collection of samples were chosen based on the error limit of 5% of the threshold.
Tools Used
A Microscribe G2X digitizer was used for the assimilation of the coordinate data. Generalized Procrustes Analysis (GPA) helped the researchers in bringing all the specimens within a common coordinate system, by translating, rotating, and scaling each of the individual samples. Also, a Canonical Variates Analysis (CVA) was conducted for the determination of the highest amount of variation having the least dimensions possibilities amongst the group. Mahalanobis distance was used for the determination of the similarity amongst the group. Discriminant Function Analysis (DFA) was also performed for the visualization of the morphological variation within the configurations amongst each of the groups. ANOVA and MANOVA were used for the depiction of the morphological characteristics and for assigning the principal component based on scores, respectively.
Results obtained and observations
Morphological variation has been illustrated with the help of wireframe graphs that depict the magnitude and the direction of the change in shape between the two mean configurations. The anatomical landmarks used here have been reported to be in the same location on each skull. This property enables the evaluation and observation of any distinctions in the overall cranial shape and size between the groups. The results showed that the Chilean male mean and the Spanish male mean configuration demonstrated very little or no variation of the anatomical landmark. Also, the results show that Colombians have a longer upper face and have the anatomical landmark nasion placed superiorly. On the other hand, the Africans have a long narrow cranial vault having a posteriorly placed landmark lambda. The Panamanians showed shorter cranial vaults and more projecting upper face (in Table 1). Based on the hierarchical clustering, the samples from Puerto Rico were demonstrated as the most distinct group. The distance in the matrix was three times that of the samples from Colombian and Peru.
Discussion
Forensic anthropology has moved away from using the term “race” to that of “ancestry” The early critics of race estimation in forensics questioned whether the underlying approach to ancestry would change. Thirty years later, it is clear that current research is not fundamentally grounded in an evolutionary framework and thus, forensic anthropology ancestry stands to be a novel approach. Ancestry has become a synonym for the race in the current global political climate. It is a fundamental, structural, as well as, a thoughtful shift in our paradigm beginning with the hypotheses driven by some meaningful questions and a very careful selection of informative characters for investigation. It is therefore time to return to investigating real human biological variation.

Recent insights into the role of Ubiquitination
Sumedha B S, Bangalore University What is Ubiquitin? Ubiquitin is a small 76-amino acid protein found in eukaryotic cells. They are be found either freely or covalently bound to membrane proteins. It is one of the highly conserved proteins. This means its amino acid sequence is similar-from yeast to animals. It has two functional sites: […]
