Genetic analysis of Rosmaric acid synthase from O. tenuiflorum using the magical molecular toolbox.

–Anwita Sarkar, Amity University Kolkata

The impact of advancement of molecular biotechnology across the nation can be applied to code/ decode the intricate biological system. Its immense applications provide excellent opportunities to the present-day biologists to answer each and every possible biological problem. Scientists are able to acquire a better understanding of the important metabolites with the magical toolbox of molecular biology.

Isolation, Cloning of O. tenuiflorum (holy basil) Rosmaric acid synthase cDNA (OtRAS) and its expression in the bacterial cells revealed its structural, phylogenetic, regulatory and, physiological attributes. A close evolutionary relatedness of OtRAS with the Rosmaric acid synthase(RAS) protein was reported. Up-regulation of OtRAS under flood and cold stress and down-regulation under drought and salt conditions indicated its regulatory mechanism to be highly dependent on a variety of abiotic stresses.

Superbugs likely to be mitigated by certain variants of vitamins called ‘Antivitamins’,

bioxone September 5, 2020

–Anuska Sen, Amity University Kolkata ‘Superbugs’ have been causing such a great havoc that certainly the world now knows about it. These microorganisms have developed resistance for antibiotics generally used to treat them, but scientists have discovered variants of vitamins called ‘Antivitamins’ that maybe instrumental in combating these superbugs. Antivitamins usually have structural resemblance to […]
