–Sayak Biswas, Amity University Kolkata

When the world is trying to fight through the Covid-19 pandemic, Scientists and Researchers are silently working to develop vaccines which can lead to some relief. There are currently a huge number of vaccines under developed for Covid-19. One among them is the Russian vaccine Sputnik V.

The Russian vaccine was found safe in the early trials according to Lancet. It was reported that a two-stage infection develops long-lasting immunity. India, which currently holds the second position in the total coronavirus cases, is looking forward to this Russian Vaccine. Russian Direct Investment Fund’s Head Kirill Dmitriev announced that India will be conducting the Phase 3 clinical trials of the vaccine, the preliminary results of which will be available in the period of October-November. Though Sputnik V is claimed to be fast-tracked, India is looking to take a chance to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Who knows this vaccine might prove efficient enough and we get the vaccine available by the end of the year.
