ANNOUNCEMENT

Recruitment of Research Personal

(ADVT. NO.: WII/RC-CELL/RSCHRS-Selection-2020(5)/A.3.27)

The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier autonomous Institute under the Ministry of

Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, in the field of wildlife

research, teaching and training. The Institute invites application from the Indian nationals

for the position of Project Associate (03), Junior Project Fellow (16) and Project Assistant

(01)  through a Qualifying test followed by Interview(s). Details of the positions along with essential and desirable qualifications, a brief description of work, age criteria and monthly fellowships are given in Annexure-1.

How to Apply:

All candidates are required to apply online. Online submission of application will be allowed

on the website up to 23:59 hrs on 10.11.2020 and the online exam will be conducted on

17.11.2020. No other means/mode of application shall be accepted. Candidates are required to visit the link provided for filling ONLINE application and fill up the personal details/BIO-DATA, fees etc. carefully. Before filling the application online, candidates should keep ready a scanned copy of passport size photograph and signature in jpg/jpeg format (Photo size less than 500 KB and signature size less than 200 KB). Candidates should ensure that the relevant details viz. Name, Date of Birth, Address, etc. entered in application form should be correct.

Candidates who have qualified UGC-CSIR NET JRF Fellowship exam, and have an active fellowship period, may be allowed to directly appear for the interview of advertised posts, subject to successful verification of documents pertaining to essential qualification of the applied post. The qualification of the UGC-CSIR – NET JRF- Fellowship exam does not entitle a student for direct recruitment for the post or guarantee registration of PhD. This exam is deemed to be sole of qualifying in nature, in lieu of the exam conducted by WII. The merit and aptitude of these students will be decided based on their interview. Such candidates are required to apply online compulsorily.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR Govt Research Personnel Recruitment

a. The duration of the qualifying test will be 90 minutes. The question paper contains

Essay. Qualifying eligibility marks will be as per UGC norms.

b. The fee paid once, will not be refunded under any circumstances. Candidates should

satisfy themselves that they fulfil all the eligibility norms including educational

qualification(s) as on date of submission of the application can apply.

c. Candidates are advised to give specific, correct and complete information. STUDENTS

APPEARING FOR FINAL YEAR EXAMINATIONS WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO

APPLY. All original certificates/documents in support of information furnished in the

application form are to be produced at the time of interview at Wildlife Institute of India,

Dehradun, failing which the candidate will be disqualified for appearing in interview. Candidature of the candidates is liable to be rejected at any stage of the admission process

or after admission if any information provided by the candidates is found to be false

or is not found in conformity with eligibility criteria mentioned in the advertisement.

d. For getting the benefit of reservation under OBC category, the name of caste and community of the candidate must appear in the central list of Other Backward Classes

(OBC) available on National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), Government of India website www.ncbc.nic.in. The candidate must not belong to creamy layer. Candidates seeking reservation as OBC will have to submit at the time of the interview, caste certificate, ONLY in the prescribed format issued from the designated authority indicating clearly the candidate’s caste, the Act/Order under which the caste is recognized as OBC and the Village/Town the candidates are ordinarily resident of. The OBC candidates must ensure that they possess the latest Non-Creamy layer certificate issued by the designated authority. A certificate containing any variation in the caste name will not be accepted.

PAYMENT OF APPLICATION FEE FOR Govt Research Personnel Recruitment

  1. Applicants/candidates are required to pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 500/- per
    project.
  2. Rs. 45/- extra would be charged as service charges of online payment. Hence the total amount to be paid for registration is Rs. 545/- (Five hundred forty-five only)
  3. Candidates are required to make the application fee payment through debit card/credit
    card/net-banking (service charges apply for all banks will be borne by the candidates).
    The candidates will be automatically/redirected to make online payment (wherever fee
    is applicable) once the form is successfully completed. No other mode of payment will
    be accepted.
  4. Application fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances. Candidates
    are therefore requested to verify their eligibility before payment of application fee.

Name of the Project: Terai Road Project QQ (To be initiated, subject to

availability of fund)

Post I

Position: Project Associate

No of Posts: 01

Essential Qualification: PhD Degree in Zoology/ Botany/ Biological Science/ Life Sciences relevant to studies in human dimensions aspect of wildlife management, have published research work to their credit and have already shown evidence of independent research work.

Desirable Qualification: Preference will be given to the candidate having PhD/

M.Phil. Degree in relevant subjects and working experience in wildlife field assessment and survey. The candidate should have experience in wildlife ecology.

Work Description: Required to visit the proposed area of work in Uttar Pradesh Terai

region, to collect data and to coordinate with the other team members.

Emoluments: Rs. 40000 plus HRA

Age: 45 Years


Post II

Position: Junior Project Fellow

No of Posts: 04

Essential Qualification: MSc Degree in Botany/Zoology/ Life Sciences/Biological Sciences.

Desirable Qualification: Preference will be given to the candidate having experience in the field of wildlife ecology.

Work Description: Required to visit the proposed area of work in Uttar Pradesh Terai

region, to collect data.

Emoluments: Rs. 31000 plus HRA

Age: 30 Years


Name of the Project: Study of the Impacts of the Increased Operation Time of

the Main Conveyer Belt of JSW on the Wildlife in Sandur Taluk, Ballary

District of Karnataka

Post III

Position: Junior Project Fellow (Mammalian Diversity)

No of Posts: 03

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Botany/Zoology/Life Science/ Biological Sciences/ Wildlife Science.

Desirable Qualification:

  1. Experience in Mammalian/Ecological surveys.
  2. Ability and a keen desire to carryout arduous fieldwork in tough conditions with minimal logistic/connectivity support.

Work Description: Field surveys and camera trapping for generating baseline data on

mammalian diversity and habitat use within the study area. Field work will be carried out in remote forest areas throughout suitable seasons during day and night hours.

Emoluments: Rs. 31000 plus HRA

Age: 30 Years


Post IV

Position: Junior Project Fellow (Avifaunal Diversity)

No of Posts: 01

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Botany/Zoology/Life Science/ Biological Sciences/ Wildlife Science.

Desirable Qualification:

  1. Experience in field survey of birds.
  2. Ability and a keen desire to carryout arduous fieldwork in tough conditions with minimal logistic/connectivity support.

Work Description: The project aims to generate baseline data on bird diversity of the

study area. Field work will be carried out in remote forest areas during day and dusk hours.

Emoluments: Rs. 31000 plus HRA

Age: 30 Years


Post V

Position: Junior Project Fellow (Herpetofaunal Diversity)

No of Posts: 01

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Botany/Zoology/Life Science/ Biological Sciences/ Wildlife Science.

Desirable Qualification:

  1. Experience in herpetofaunal survey, scientific handling and basic knowledge of their taxonomy
  2. Ability and a keen desire to carryout arduous fieldwork in tough conditions with minimal logistic/connectivity support.

Work Description: The project aims to systematically document diversity, distribution and ecological information of reptiles and amphibians. Fieldwork will be carried out in remote forest areas throughout suitable seasons during day and night hours.

Emoluments: Rs. 31000 plus HRA

Age: 30 Years


Post VI

Position: Project Associate

No of Posts: 01

Essential Qualification: PhD. Degree in Zoology/Botany/Biological Science/Life Science and Social Science relevant to studies in human dimensions aspect of wildlife management has published research work to their credit and have already shown evidence of

independent research work.

Desirable Qualification: Candidate should have proven written and communication skills in science. The candidate should have experience in wildlife survey, occupancy analysis, population estimation, habitat quantification using different approaches. Candidates with knowledge of bio-statistical software such as R, GIS and Remote sensing tools and software, as well as ecological tools for biodiversity assessment will be preferred.

Work Description: Lead a team of researchers in regular field data collection, analysis

and report writing and also assist PIs, and other project colleagues. The candidate will be responsible for various works under the project at Ballari District of Karnataka from its

inception to the end.

Emoluments: Rs. 40000 plus HRA

Post VII

Position: Project Associate

No of Posts: 01

Essential Qualification: PhD. Degree in Zoology/Botany/Biological Science/Life Science and Social Science relevant to studies in human dimensions aspect of wildlife management has published research work to their credit and have already shown evidence of

independent research work.

Desirable Qualification: Candidates with prior experience in sampling design and

animal abundance estimation and conversant with PHVA, demography models and species distribution modelling, knowledge of software like MARK, DISTANCE, VORTEX,

SECR and MAXENT, able to do fieldwork in harsh condition will be given preference. Proficiency in using computers and good writing skill in the English language. Publications are desirable.

Work Description: Fieldwork and analysis of data on the animal abundance, occupancy and habitat parameters, report writing. Work will be both at HQ in Dehradun, with several field visits to forest interiors, wildlife areas and arduous terrains across India.

Emoluments: Rs. 40000 plus HRA

Age: 45 Years


Post VIII

Position: Junior Project Fellow

No of Posts: 06

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Botany/Zoology/Life Science/ Biological Sciences/ Wildlife Science.

Desirable Qualification: Candidate(s) with prior experience in sampling design

and animal abundance estimation, knowledge of software like MARK, DISTANCE, and SECR will be preferred. Able to do fieldwork in harsh condition.

Work Description: Population estimation using distance sampling, camera traps, mark

recapture, and occupancy analysis. Habitat evaluation and human disturbance assessment. The research work will be carried out in different parts of India. Work will be primarily at field sites with occasional visits to the HQ at Dehradun.

Emoluments: Rs. 31000 plus HRA

Age: 30 Years

and genetic structure of Hispid Hare Caprolagus hispidus in the highly fragmented

Terai grassland of India

Post IX

Position: Junior Project Fellow

No of Posts: 06

Essential Qualification: Masters’ Degree in Botany/Zoology/Life Science/ Biological Sciences/ Wildlife Science.

Desirable Qualification: Research Experience in Aquatic Ecology/ River Ecology/ Fish Biology. Knowledge of field data collection methods, stream habitat assessment, database management, GIS and basic statistical analysis.

Work Description: The Project Fellow should involve in regular field data collection at LTEO sites in Western Ghats landscape, analysis and report writing, also assist with Project Scientist and PI.

Emoluments: Rs. 25000 plus HRA

Age: 30 Years

* 1. Age as on 1st November 2020. 2. Upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically challenged category.
