Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is a not-for-profit Section 8, Schedule B, Public Sector Enterprise, set up by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India as an Interface Agency to strengthen as well as empower the emerging Biotech enterprise to undertake strategic research and also innovation, addressing nationally pertinent product development needs.

As a Government of India enterprise, BIRAC endeavours to bring professionalism, transparency and efficiency into its functioning while providing support to catalyse the transformation of the emerging Indian bio-economy. It has a very special as well as unique governance structure and a very carefully developed workforce strategy that includes an enabling work environment, a work culture that is caring, promotes excellence and also hires the most talented as well as the professional workforce.

The positions are under a Contract of Services initially for 4 years and thereafter based upon performance renewed twice for five years and after that for every 10 years or till superannuation. For Post I

Scale of Pay: Rs. 40,000/- 1,20,000/- plus 35% Perquisites as well as 24% HRA.

Job Description: Entrepreneurship Development incubation and Startup facilitation

Essential Qualifications: M.Sc./4-year Bachelors professional degree program in Life Sciences/ Bio-medical sciences and any other allied Biotechnology areas from a recognized institute.

Desirable Qualification: MBA/ M.Tech/ PG DIPLOMA from a recognized institute in related areas. Outstanding written and also oral communication abilities.

Experience: 2 years; preferably in promotion of innovation/ entrepreneurship/incubation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with Entrepreneurship Development (ED) team to implement  entrepreneurship development schemes as well as programs
  2. Work very closely with Partners for smooth execution of programs and activities.
  3. Explore and also create new partnerships for expansion of ED schemes as well as programs.
  4. Handle as well as update on-line interface for grant management schemes.
  5. Manage and analyse data pertaining to funding/ startups support schemes.
  6. Plan and execute ED workshops/ Hackathons/ Ideathons/Startup exchange programmes with national and international partners.
  7. Query handling from startups as well as aspirants.
  8. Prepare concise, well-written documents making use of appropriate business as well as technical language.

For Post II

Job Description: Incubation network facilitation for Biotech Startups.

Essential Qualifications: M.Sc./ M. Tech 4 year Bachelors professional degree program in Life Sciences/ Bio-medical Sciences any other allied Biotechnology areas from a recognized institute Outstanding written and also oral communication skills.

Desirable Qualification: PhD in Life Sciences/ Work for any kind of Management/ IP/ or related Biotechnology allied areas.

Experience: 2 years; preferably 1-year experience in entrepreneurship development as well as incubation activities in a public or private organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engage with stakeholders involved in S&T incubation especially biotech incubation to understand ecosystem gaps as well as growth opportunities.
  2. Work with Incubation team at BIRAC for selection, identification and also operationalization of New BioNEST incubators and/ or pre-incubation YUVA Centres and also E-YUVA fellows.
  3. As a team effort, help create a pipeline of Incubatees and Incubators/ E-YUVA Centres and E-YUVA fellows.
  4. Support Incubation team for operational activities, monitoring, online portal updates.
  5. Conduct Site Visits for technical due diligence of the proposals in addition to the area experts.
  6. Help in organizing (a) yearly event BioNEST Conclave (b) Coordinate for Regional Cluster Meets led by Cluster Lead Incubator.
  7. Prepare grant documents, ensure timely dispersal of grants and monitor utilization.
  8. Add to team’s objectives as well as targets via seamless collaboration. Adhere to internal and external compliance responsibilities in a timely manner.
  9. Domestic travel will be needed.
