The panacea to prevent all forms of Epileptic seizures?-Mozart may have the answer. Read on to find out.

–Yashraj Singh, Amity University Kolkata

Epilepsy is one of the most misinterpreted serious Neurological diseases of all time and surprisingly the most demographically(in the population) prevalent. There are various forms of epileptic seizures of which the tonic-clonic seizures(involuntary muscular contractions) being the most traumatizing and rarest of all. At least in India, people have blatantly stigmatized a seizure to be some kind of an episode linked to demonic possessions. Therefore, to alleviate the situation of the sufferer, there should be some kind of a non-invasive technique to assist them in battling out the frequency of seizures.

A recent meta-analysis(a study of studies) published by the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology(ECNP)  affirmed that a long-standing belief of Mozart’s music being inefficacious to be partly unsubstantiated. The comprehensive analysis indicates that a period of exposure to Mozart’s composition had prolonged effects, as it was able to amicably mitigate the abnormal brain activities in epileptic patients. The original studies on the effect of Mozart compositions used the sonata for 2 pianos, K448, and this has remained the most used music in studies. Researchers are always on a lookout for several non-invasive techniques that can be used in conjunction with the on-going medications of the affected and this study is a way forward in that direction.
