Is self-quarantine a better idea?

bioxone September 13, 2020September 13, 2020

–Shrayana Ghosh, Amity University Kolkata

A statement by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC) earlier stated that there was a comparatively higher risk of asymptomatic people being infected by COVID, which raised the number of people screened for COVID to a high level. Thousands of asymptomatic people flooded testing centers, resulting in thousands of pending studies. At the end of July and the beginning of August, LA County alone reported a massive batch of COVID tests in which only 5% of the tests were positive. Eventually, this gave rise to two big issues — first, a large number of pending tests resulted in the cancellation of surgeries and medication as a result of the preoccupation of the doctors, nurses, and equipment and medical procedures taking longer than usual, and second, patients who had been screened negative would inevitably fall ill and be tested positive a few days later. This called for a workaround where the government called for a stronger strategy of self-quarantine citizens who had been in touch with asymptomatic patients. It was then found that self-isolation could not only help minimize the rate of transmission of the disease but could also prevent excessive testing. Thus, proving to be a much safer way to deal with the virus.

Can amphibian lives be endangered by fungi?

bioxone September 14, 2020

–Anuska Sen, Team bioXone Although it seems questionable whether a fungus can endanger amphibian lives, pieces of evidence prove that they have already been responsible for the extinction of over 30 amphibian species. This disastrous water-borne fungus named Chytrid fungus is so widespread that it is said to be present in every part of the […]

Nimrit Palan, Mumbai University Cell division is the process by which a cell divides to produce new daughter cells by distributing its genetic material and cytoplasm. It is a component of the larger cell cycle and is involved in cell reproduction directly. Mitosis and meiosis are the two kinds of cell division seen in fully […]

Ananya Dutta, Bose Institute This is the aphorism of Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center, New York, USA.  At MSK it is believed that immunotherapy is one of the most promising treatments to treat, cure, and eventually prevent cancer. COMMON SEASONAL CORONAVIRUSES DOESN’T OFFER ANY PROTECTION-FIND OUT!

bioxone November 22, 2020November 22, 2020

AISHILA KAR, AMITY UNIVERSITY KOLKATA Severe respiratory problem coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has fastly spread within the human population. In spite of the fact, SARS-CoV-2 is a novel coronavirus, most humans had been early exposed to other antigenically different common seasonal human coronaviruses (hCoVs) earlier than the COVID-19 pandemic. Few scientists have suggested that people might […]
