Rapeseed oil to the rescue of fatty liver diseases

Approximate 39% of adult individuals are found to be obese around the world. Obesity is found to be directly linked to NAFLD (Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Diseases) which is caused due to an increase in levels of Intrahepatic lipid (IHL) content.

A collaborative study was recently conducted in Germany with a sample size of 27 obese male individuals. These 27 male individuals were either administered with 50g of purified rapeseed oil (RA) containing a significant amount of alpha-linolenic acid or filtered olive oil for a total of 56 days.

After the conclusion of the study, the results suggested that the individuals administered with refined RA oil showcased a significant drop in IHL content whereas the ones administered with olive oil showed an enhanced level of IHL.

RA oil adds an extra hand of help by increasing the level of serum Interleukin-6 by 1.68 folds which protects our liver and is a positive regulator of growth. It also showed a decrease in serum-free fatty acids, responsible for decrease in glucose oxidation and increase insulin resistance in both muscle and fat by 21%.
