The National Science Day is celebrated on the 28th of February every year in our country to give a glance to the great Indian physicist and mathematician Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, and his enormous contributions in various fields of science and especially for discovering the natural phenomenon “The Raman Effect”. It is the change in the wavelength of light that occurs when a ray of light is deviated by photon molecules.
HISTORY AND CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY
The National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) first proposed to celebrate this day as National Science Day in the year 1986 which is further commenced by the Government of India. The theme of NSD 2023 is ‘Global Science for Global Wellbeing’. The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh announced the overview for National Science Day 2023 on January 10, 2023, and said, “As India enters 2023, the theme indicates India’s emerging global role and rising visibility in the international arena.” Schools, Colleges, and various academic science institutes all over the country conduct public talks, debates, quizzes, poster-making competitions, conceptual scientific projects based on innovative ideas, research exhibitions, and several other activities to understand the importance of science and technology and apply it in our daily life to make it lucid and progressive.
SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT ON SOCIETY
The main purpose of NSD is to spread enthusiasm for science and scientific applications all over rural and urban areas of the country. Every year National Science Day is celebrated as one of the main science festivals in India to demonstrate the various goals to achieve its purpose. It should be celebrated in every educational institution to make students perform with rational thinking and logical reasoning.
Not only students but also the crowd from the grassroots need to know the importance of the day to discuss the issues and implementations for the development of science and new technologies and encourage people in popularizing as well as applying it in their daily lives.
