Can antibody existence ensure protection against COVID-19?

bioxone September 12, 2020September 12, 2020

–Sayak Banerjee, Amity University Kolkata

Due to concerns over India’s Covid-19 sharp ascend, the critical issue of antibodies poses a struggle for the scientists as they try to understand its impact on the disease progression.

They stated that, while neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) generated against the SARS-Cov-2 may inhibit its entry into the host cell, other antibodies are also produced against various parts of the virus. Any prior exposure to the SARS-Cov-2 in an individual denotes the existence of simple antibodies, but in the absence of nAbs, it restricts from providing guaranteed protection from the disease.

The scientists are yet unaware of the longevity of the persistence of those antibodies since it is unclear if the people who generate antibodies against SARS-Cov-2 are protected from re-infection.

Research says that, based on the Iceland study, which measured the levels of Covid-19 antibodies in the blood of around 30,000 people, it was observed that the endurance of the antibodies was about four months.

The scientists concluded that they needed more comprehensive serosurveys to know more than the antibody evidence of how much the virus has proliferated.

Mitochondrial DNA variants show interesting fluctuations!

bioxone August 4, 2021August 3, 2021

Ananya Ghosal, MAKAUT(WB) The two main reasons for an increase in the application of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs) are the development of organoids and differentiated cells. Few concerns like the pre-existing or reprogramming-related occurrence of tumorigenic mutations, the age-related burden of somatic mutation hamper the therapeutic use of iPSCs. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is an […]
