Nanotechnology for pain management

BioTech Today June 27, 2021June 26, 2021

Aparna Pandey, IILM College of Engineering and Technology, Greater Noida

Introduction:-

Pain is an agonizing tenderness (feeling) that tells that something may be wrong happens in our body. Pain is a kind of symptom. Pain can be of any type like itching, aching, pinching. It can be a mild headache, stomach ache, etc. Pain can be of three types:-

1)         Nociceptive pain

2)         Nociceptive inflammatory pain

3)         Neuropathic pain

Role of nanotechnology in pain relief:-

Nanotechnology plays an important role in pain relief. It is a scientific way and drug-free way to relieve pain. Nanomaterials can be sum up both free molecules and protein-based drugs to increase blood circulation time with long-lasting pain relief with a few side effects. KAILO PAIN PATCH consists of millions of nano capacitors. The nano capacitors which are present in the kailo pain patch carry a small electrical signal. When we put a kailo pain patch on our body then these nano capacitors inhibit the system of our body, and then it will stop the pain instantly. The nanomaterials prefer different advantages for pain relief, such as controlled relief, prolonged circulation time and it has limited side effects. With the increase in the development of nanotechnology chronic pain relief has also shot up and it becomes very easy.

When we introduce nanomaterials into a clinical application, a major concern is the biocompatibility of the nanomaterial which are proposed. Nanomaterials that have been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) are the first ones to be considered by the researchers. FDA-approved nanomaterials are firstly utilized by the researchers as FDA approves the better quality of any material. The nanomaterial which is approved by FDA is organic like liposomes(liposomes are derived from lipids). It is also useful in chronic pain and chronic pain is characterized by the responses to stimuli that is called hyperalgesia. Chronic pain is those which includes pain, injuries, and diseases.

Future therapeutic Interventions:-

1) In the future nanotechnology will help decrease different kinds of pains like chronic pain and vice-versa.

2) Since each drug has its profile, its procedure to develop, so it is necessary to design appropriate nanomaterials, to achieve the relation between drug release date and drug release time.

3) To improve the therapeutic effects by minimizing its side effects, it is necessary to achieve the relation between the drug release time and drug release date.

Conclusion:-

Nanotechnology is an emerging field of science that is expected to have rapid and strong future developments. However, further research needs to be conducted to validate its role in pain relief treatments.
