From using wheels and carts to smartphones and airplanes, each year this day acknowledges the technological achievements that keep on changing our lives on a daily basis. We cannot imagine a single day without technology. From health care, agricultural to educational sector and entertainment, food services and security, we continue to use technology to keep us updated. Simply it can be said that technology has helped us to change the way we live and drive us further into the world of a better future. Since the year 1999, 11th May has been marked as the National Technology day which was declared by the then Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The day aims at acknowledging and celebrating the countless contributions of Indians to science and technology. The theme for National Technology Day, 2021 as proposed by the Technology Development Board is “Science and Technology as a sustainable future”.
Biotechnology is that branch of technology which looks into the important domains of biological sciences like genetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, biochemistry and other related fields. It is an interdisciplinary subject helping us to keep up with the time and utilize nature’s own toolbox to modify our own genetic makeup to heal. It has largely revolutionized mankind since its existence by contributing much towards the existing public and global health needs. In recent times, we can see how this stream has become an integral part of our lives, where we look up to the biotechnologists and microbiologists for information regarding the Coronavirus disease, such as vaccine preparation, new mutations in the virus and much more.
Standing today, India is constantly combating with the second wave of COVID-19 and we stand as a nation in solidarity to keep up with the needs of the patients. We are trying every single day to manifest the best of what we have in our health care systems, health care workers, doctors, microbiologists and biotechnologists are working day and night tirelessly to treat & vaccinate everyone. So, this National Technology Day, let us all take a pledge to stay indoors and pay a small tribute to this industry and the health care workers who are trying to help us in the times of need.
