OUTBREAK OF ANOTHER MYSTERIOUS DISEASE IN ELURU

bioxone December 15, 2020December 15, 2020

SRILAGNA SARKAR, AMITY UNIVERSITY KOLKATA

Since last Saturday night, hundreds have flooded to hospitals of Andhra Pradesh due to a sudden outbreak of a mysterious disease in Eluru city. While preliminary test report analysis has established the role of chemical substances found in pesticides the health experts are all baffled as the mystery disease has left one dead. Many teams of experts are probing the role of Organochlorine (chlorinated hydrocarbons used in agriculture and mosquito control; the compound includes DDT) pesticides as the cause of the infection in the city, with water contamination ruled out as the reason of the outbreak.

The mystery disease as it started the wave, first showed symptoms of suffering from fits, nausea, followed by 3-5 mins of epilepsy, or even temporary memory loss along with anxiety, headache, nausea, and even back pain. Water and milk samples were sent to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad, as the medical team is suspecting other chemical reagents and heavy metal content that might have led to the outbreak.

The mystery disease has further surfaced in rural parts of Eluru and Denduluru from the One-Town area of Eluru, although the number of infected were less in the rural parts. So far, 263 patients have been discharged while another 188 has been admitted with similar symptoms. The precise cause behind the mystery disease could not be established yet, as the CT  scans and blood test reports showed everything as normal.
