Vaping is less dangerous on health than Smoking

bioxone November 27, 2020November 27, 2020

Camelia Bhattacharyya, Amity University Kolkata

Vaping is the act of smoking nicotine with additional flavours added to it. The vapour is inhaled and exhaled through a specially designed device. A recent study has shown a drastic decline in the rate of smoking while vaping has somehow gained popularity, mostly amongst youngsters who seem to find it ‘cool.’  While the USA, UK, and France are most popular in vaping, the western Aussies have eventually started taking the activity to a new level. The number of vapers in Australia seems to have increased drastically from 2016. But is smoking safer or more dangerous than vaping? Let us find out.

Studies conducted by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and an intensive initiative taken by Kahlia McCausland from Curtin University have disclosed varied results. While vaping or e-smoking is safer than Cigarette smoking, it too comes with several disadvantages or health problems. The vapours contain ultrafine particles (PM0.1), more dangerous than particulate matter (PM2.5). The ultrafine particles can enter other organs after invading the lungs (due to its super small size) and cause pulmonary inflammation, nausea, irritation in the windpipe, chest pain as well as pulsation.

While most smokers are more attracted to vaping because of the unofficial claims of it being safer, most choose it due to its low cost, variable flavours, and colourful machinery that comes along with it. Most youngsters prefer vaping to smoking. It indeed is safer, but every coin has two faces, so those practising this habit should also check its harmful effects on the body before getting addicted to it.
