Efficiency of Bariatric Surgery- Evaluated!

bioxone September 29, 2020September 29, 2020

-Aishila Kar, Amity University Kolkata

Bariatric surgery is completed to assist you to lose excess weight and reduce your risk of potentially hazardous weight-related health issues. This surgery is usually done only after you’ve tried to lose weight by improving your diet and exercise habits. And it becomes more effective after a total weight loss of 25%.

A total of 430 members with a heavyweight who underwent bariatric surgery were enlisted. Members were evaluated for changes in anthropometric parameters, metabolic indexes, MetS components and medications before and 1 year after surgery. The prevalence of MetS is 92.3% (397) at the beginning. A year after bariatric surgery, 337 members (84.9%) were in MetS remission. The multivariate-adjusted ORs were 1.16 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.10–1.22) for every 1% increase in %TWL for MetS remission and 1.18 (95% CI 1.11–1.25) for every 5% increase in %EWL. Receiver operating curve (ROC)study convey that the %TWL was more predictive than the %EWL (AUC%TWL vs. AUC%EWL, 0.749 vs. 0.700, p = 0.023). The Youden index indicated that the optimal %TWL cutoff point to spot MetS remission was 25%.

For good responders to bariatric surgery must be characterized as showing the total percentage of weight loss less than equals 25% (%TWL ≥ 25%).

High-Grade Serous Ovarian Carcinoma & its radical treatment

bioxone August 7, 2021August 6, 2021

Srabani Roy Chowdhury (MAKAUT, WB) HGSC or High-Grade Serous Ovarian Carcinoma is considered to be an aggressive type of ovarian cancer. Deleterious mutations present in the DNA repair gene RAD51C are drivers of defective homologous recombination in High-Grade Serous Ovarian Carcinoma (HGSC). These are emerging biomarkers of PARP inhibitor sensitivity. A PARP inhibitor is targeted […]

Population-scale long-read sequencing and its approaches

BioTech Today June 22, 2021June 22, 2021

Sumedha B S, Bangalore University Long-read sequencing (LRS), also called third-generation sequencing, offers a number of advantages over short-read sequencing such as Illumina’s NovaSeq, NextSeq, HiSeq and MiSeq instruments. Long-read sequencing technologies could permit the assembly of genomes, which is capable of revolutionizing genomics. It has the potential to reveal the full spectrum of human […]
