“CANCER CELLS TO SUICIDE CELLS” TROJAN HORSE

bioxone September 29, 2020September 29, 2020

SAMRAT SARKAR, AMITY UNIVERSITY KOLKATA

With the development of medical science, people and nature are bringing about beautiful solutions by which we can deal with diseases via healthy combinations.

Cancer is a major threat to people for decades, people are working day in and day out for proper outcomes, but the outcomes made are having some major side effects. Scientists from Singapore have found a way to incorporate nanotechnology as a solution. A chemical is taken from our daily dairy and meat, mixed with an amino acid namely L-phenylalanine.

Now L-phenylalanine being one of the major requirements for allowing the cancer cells to grow and spread is used as a bait by which the chemical extract can react to the cell, eventually leading the cell to go for a ‘suicide’. The chemical here is an amino acid mimic namely Nanoscopic phenylalanine Porous Amino Acid Mimic (Nano-pPAAM). This process causes the reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the cancer cells to cause a cascade effect, ultimately leading to the self-death of the cancer cells; unharming the other cells at all.

Being a big success on mice, causing as much as 80% cure rates to some of the major cancer sites, researchers are trying their way out to make it 0% side effect to the human body and making use this technology to be a ‘delivery mechanism for drugs’ as told by scientists Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

Camelia Bhattacharyya, Amity University Kolkata As rightfully pointed out by Lois McMaster Bujold, “The dead cannot cry out for justice. The living must do so for them.” Philosophically looking into the sentence, this is exactly what the present situation of the COVID requires. There are several deaths of loved ones all around in India and […]

A novel CNS-permeable reactivator counters nerve agent exposure

bioxone August 2, 2021August 1, 2021

Sayak Banerjee, Amity University Kolkata Nerve agents, also known as nerve gases, belong to a class of organic chemicals that interrupts the nerves from transferring messages to organs. This interruption takes place due to the blocking of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), an enzyme that catalyzes the breakdown of the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine. So basically nerve agents are AChE […]
